Property Finder - Devon and Cornwall

As a buyers agent I am privileged to view some stunning Devon properties and often Somerset properties that match my clients criteria. My property searches indicate that turnover of country properties is on the increase and recovery in the southwest property market is starting to show through. I am seeing vendors asking fuller prices for their rural retreat and this is really more to do with lack of quality supply. Coastal property particularly around Lyme Bay towards Exeter is very much in demand. Close proximity to the sea and yet easy access to the hinterland is desirable.

Demand though is always there, and as a property finder I believe that location is so very important to my clients. Whilst we all want the rural idyll, access to facilities is very important. I have a number of clients who are in their early forties and have children of schooling age. Devon and Somerset as well as Dorset are well known for its high quality public schools and the local Colyton Grammar School rated amongst the top in the country. This makes the area around Taunton, Exeter and Tiverton, The Blackdown Hills, Exmoor and the Quantocks a highly desirable part of the West Country to live in and my property search often starts here. Boarding at school is not as popular as it once was and therefore easy commuting distance plays an important part in where prospective parents want to settle.

Easy access through Devon and Somerset with the A30 the M5 and the North Devon Link Road are all important. Fast train routes to Bristol and London as well as Exeter airport add to this accessibility. One of my clients commutes to Bristol each day from North Devon and confirms that the time involved is shorter than his old commute into the city of London.

At some 20% below its peak a few years ago West Country property still offers excellent value for money well worth taking advantage of in the current climate.
