We
take our clients searching abroad seriously and to that end
travel to their chosen destination to get a proper feel of the
area and what is available to them to meet their criteria.
We have visited Dubai, Thailand, Spain, Portugal
and Switzerland, for clients on many occasions now.
A recent trip to the eastern side of Portugal
revealed an under developed area yet to be explored. The Portuguese
are fiercely protective of their heritage and this is most evident
with the Ria Formosa Natural Park covering 18,400 hectares.
Fenced and protected, it offers a wealth of wildlife not found
in other coastal countries. Green zones are proliferating and
new buildings are only allowed to be 3 stories high –
ground, first and second floors. The local industry is the production
of salt, fishing and agriculture. The pace of life is gentle,
the people are very friendly. English is readily spoken and
one is made to feel most welcome.
The beaches are superb offering small private
coves as well as long stretches of wide expanse of fine yellow
sand with a wonderful cooling breeze. Some of the sand banks
are closed between September and April and are only possible
to visit by small boat or at one point the small train. The
eastern region is mainly owned and used by the Portuguese who
use their properties - summer rentals are hard to find and long
term renting is almost impossible - reminiscent of Spain 10
years ago.
Golf
courses are built in protected land and as such have clubhouses
made of wood to be in keeping with the countryside. The roads
themselves are very well maintained and the area is undergoing
a revamp with regards to the infrastructure, mains sewerage
etc.
For those who enjoy golf there is a wonderful
range of courses within the Natural Park itself, although we
particularly liked the Jack Nicklaus-designed course at the
Monte Rei development between Vila Real de Santo Antonio and
Tavira. Set in over 1000 hectares offering championship tees
boasting eight par-4s, five par-3s and
five par-5s this is a very exclusive, prestigious development.
The quality of workmanship is outstanding
and offers an exceptional investment opportunity. Prices range
from about €960,000 for a linked villa, although there
are only a few remaining. Twin villas are from €1.500,000.
Call me to help you search for your
ideal villa or plot at Monte Rei with a full guided tour by
myself or my colleague on the spot.
